Ten Important Parts to Your Advertising Copy

A sales page has several important components. While you might try looking at other sales pages to know what those parts are, a good sale page makes them blur into something that draws you in without you noticing the parts. What follows are the parts and the standard order in which you will see them on an advertising copy.

1. What is your headline?

This needs to get your potential buyer intrigued and get them to continue to read. You want your buyer to think you are talking to them, you know exactly what they need. But not from your point of view, from theirs.

2. Did you say hello?

Hello, Dear Home Owner, Dear Dog Lover, Dear Future Pro-Golfer, these are all salutations that help your sales letter sound personal. While there are programs you can get that make the sales letter add their name they are prone to glitches and of course pranksters.

3. What is their problem?

Explain their problem to them. Let the buyer know you understand their problem and why it bothers them. The shedding dog may seem like the problem, but it is not. The problem is the fur all over the couch, fur in the air conditioner and finding fur on the jacket worn to a job interview.

4. What is your solution?

Now that your buyers know you understand explain your solution. Your special shed solution may reduce shedding but that was not the problem. Your special shed solution means a fur free couch, a clean air conditioner filter and a clean jacket at that job interview. Tell them the features. Write a few lists and mix those into your sales letter.

5. Prove it.

Provide testimonials. Use real people with real pictures, people know when they are fake. Provide stories, facts, figures, just prove it.

6 What does it cost?

First discuss the value of the product. Less shedding means not having to buy vacuums, it means not having as much trouble with the air conditioner. Those are expensive. Another value you could use is how your price compares to similar products. Then discuss your actual price.

7. What is your guarantee?

Offer a complete money back guarantee to your buyers for a specific time. Better yet offer a no questions asked guarantee. Yes, it may be scary but this helps your buyers have more confidence in you and your product.

8. What do you want them to do?

This may seem like the most obvious thing in the world, but you need to be specific. Tell them to buy your product. Tell them when you want them to buy it. Explain why later will mean more air conditioner problems due to fur.

9. Thank your buyers.

It is the polite thing to do after all.

10. Add a postscript.

Restate the urgency. Restate the major benefits and again encourage them to buy posthaste.
